The wedding still remains the greatest of all human rituals. For reasons that are probably primal we are drawn to weddings. Whether we love 'em or hate 'em we are part of them. Sooner rather than later… comes the weekend, and you’ll be at a wedding.
This, despite the onslaught of modern propaganda that suggests marriage is fatal and the single life is all there is… a simple answer for this is survival, and the institution of marriage ensures our survival. Sharing the joys and the sometimes sadness of this life with someone else is a great gift. And what a better way to celebrate this than with a wedding – the perfect time to bring together those closest to you to share in a truly wonderful and humbling moment.
That's not say that everything always goes according to plan with every wedding. There are all manner of challenges when planning a wedding – flooding venues, pricey photographers, annoying relatives, demanding mothers (in law), costs, and timing – the list goes on and on. But if you recognize that this madness is all part of the greater madness of being in love and the adventure of planning a life together then you will have a wonderful time.
And after all the planning and apprehension, the wedding day eventually comes... filled with anticipation and anxiety. The day of a wedding is fascinating – all over the towns and cities, guests and wedding parties are involved in one preparation or another – hair, make–up, last minute gifts, sewing up a broken zip! It’s a wide–spread hive of activity and that all comes together at the last moment, and then seemingly without warning it begins. No matter how tough you are it is difficult not to be impressed by the emotional impact that takes place.
We women cry, the men try not to by being flippant or clichéd, but there is no getting away from the simple fact that these two people are preparing to make the greatest commitment that two people can make to each other. The emotion then gives way to euphoria through food and drink, and the great company of family and friends.
Yep, weddings are still our greatest ritual! Good luck with yours.
